On June 10th, 2013, my boyfriend accidentally booked a ticket for me under his name. He had already booked a ticket for himself, but the website did not alert him to this fact and allowed him to proceed with making the reservation.
Upon receiving the confirmation for our flight, we realized that both tickets were in his name. Thinking that a simple name change would not be a problem, I called Spirit airlines and spoke with three different representatives. They all told me that I would have to cancel the flight, rebook another one and be responsible for any increase in the price difference. Two representatives told me that I would have to pay a $125.00 cancellation fee since the flight did not qualify as a "double booking". Even though my boyfriend's name was on two tickets for the same flight, time and destination, somehow they would not consider it as a double booking because he booked them on two different days and we paid with two separate cards.
This is the absolute worst airline experience I've ever had. It makes absolutely no sense why I would have to cancel a flight, rebook it, and pay a cancellation fee, plus the cost of the cancelled flight in order to do a simple name change on a ticket. I have filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and am trying to get a refund for the cost of the flight that I was forced to cancel.
